Statement of Significance

House, 23 Manning Street, is an altered, rendered, limestone and tile single storey house dating from c1905. The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Federation Bungalow style of architecture.

Physical Description

23 Manning Street is a single storey, rendered, limestone and tile house with an asymmetrical facade designed as an example of the Federation Bungalow style of architecture. The front wall is rendered masonry and the side walls are limestone and brick quoining. The roof is hipped and clad with tiles. The facade has a projecting front room with timber windows. The front door and a timber window are located under a flat roofed verandah supported by pairs of round steel posts. There is a brick chimney evident. There is a low level rendered masonry wall to the front boundary line.The front façade had been altered through the addition of a new flat roof for the verandah and new verandah supports. The front windows had been replaced.

History

This place was identified by the Fremantle Society in 1979/80 as being of cultural heritage significance. (Coded: Brown: "Positively contributing to the built environment")
