Statement of Significance

The Infant Health Centre represents the growing awareness and importance of infant health, and children's special needs and requirements. The centre is also an indicator of the continued growth of the Katanning population, particularly after the War and Depression years, and has historic significance in its continued use as an infant health centre.

Physical Description

A domestic scale hip and gable roof building with render and face brick walls and a tiled roof and small pane side hung casement windows. The building is designed in the Inter-War Bungalow style. It has a leafy setting.

History

In 1938, the Katanning Branch of the Infant Health Association established this centre in Austral Terrace. The centre also housed a qualified nursing sister.
