House , 312 High Street, is a single storey brick and tile house dating from 1913. The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical building stock located within the residential areas of Fremantle. It is historically significant as a representation of typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Federation Bungalow style of architecture.
House, 312 High Street is a single brick and tile house constructed as a simple variation of the Federation Bungalow style of Architecture. The walls are painted brick. The roof is hipped and gabled and clad with tiles. There is a brick chimney with render capping and two chimney pots. The verandah is under a continuous tiled roof supported by twin timber posts featuring timber fretwork. The asymmetrical front façade has a protruding front room under the gable roof with two windows. Under the verandah roof the façade features a front door and a timber framed window, with a six panel top pane. A high painted brick wall to the front boundary line prevents further description of the front elevation.
As was customary in English towns, the main street of the town was named High St. This Workers Home Board House was built in 1913/14 and was first occupied by George A. Weindenbach. In 1916/17 the tenant was C. J. White, followed by Christopher White until 1921. In 1935/36 the occupier was Edward Charles Chapman and in 1951/52 E. W. Chapman was recorded as being the owner/occupier. The house was originally number 592 and in c. 1921 it changed to 594. By 1951 it was known as 312 High Street and is Lot 1573.
