Historic - Aboriginal legend attached to the Mineral Springs. Also used to fill the Gnowangerup Swimming Pool built in 1934, one of the first pools in an inland country• town. Aesthetic - A very pleasing area which could be developed into a picnic area and park.
The Mineral Springs is located near the G now anger up Swimming Pool. They were used to fill the swimming pool when it was first built in 1934.
There is an old Aboriginal legend attached to the springs which concerns two Aboriginal warriors who fought to the death over who had the prior claim to the territory near the springs. Their blood soaked into the ground and from each crimson stain filtered a spring. One warrior returned to earth as an emu (waitch) and left for the district ofWaitchem flVagin). The other, obviously the victor, was reincarnated as a mallee hen (Gnowj and remained in the area around the Gnowangerup Springs.
