Statement of Significance

The place represents associations with many community organisations throughout the formative years of Kulin's development.

Physical Description

Timber framed and weatherboard clad with a gable corrugated iron roof. A lean-to verandah has been constructed across the street frontage and a section enclosed with fibro cement cladding.

History

The agricultural hall opened on 3 May 1919, it was the first hall in Kulin. On the 20 September 1919 the first Kulin Agricultural show was held at the hall. An honour roll commemorating those who served in the first World War was installed in the hall. The Buffalo Lodge held their meetings in the hall. The Catholic congregation celebrated mass in the hall. The school conducted classes in the hall in the mid 1920s when the student numbers were ever increasing. Fundraising activities during the war took place in this hall in addition to the Memorial Hall. There were dances every second week, and events for the Patriotic Fund. The Uniting Church Ladies Guild ran a beauty and deportment school in the hall. The Agricultural show continued to be held annually at the hall until 1954. The Girl Guides used the hall facilities from 1957 to 1979. In 1978/9 the Shire sold the place to a private owner and contributed the proceeds to the Recreation Centre. Hargreave's hardware and building supplies after 1979.
