House 34 Burt Street is a good example of a stone residence in the Federation Queen Anne style, representing the expansion of Fremantle in the gold boom period of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
House 34 Burt Street is a single storey painted brick and a zincalume hipped and half timbered gables house set above pavement level behind a limestone fence.
Burt Street is likely named after Chief Justice Sir Archibald Paull Burt, who came to Fremantle in 1861 from the West Indies. His son, Septimus Burt, became the first Attorney-General under Responsible Government. A building was erected on the site in 1904/05. The first owner and occupant was John Hackett, a manager.
