Condition

Very Good. The Register entry includes McNess Guest çHouse and the land on which it stands, being çpart of Swan Location 11544 on Reserve 9868, ças defined in Heritage Council drawing çnumber YNP-3. After the Park was taken over by the State çGardens Board in 1931 work began on construction çof a Lodge, which was completed the following çyear. It was of stone and incorporated in it çwas the original small cottage, also of stone, çcalled Cave House and possibly built during the çtenure of the Caves Board. The name was given to ç honour Sir Charles McNess whose donations helped ç establish the Park and give employment in çdepression years. At the back of the building is a large living çroom with a fireplace at one end and leadlight çwindows along the side opening onto a verandah, çwhich is now enclosed. The future of the building is uncertain and it is ç not in use except for a small area at the front çwhich serves as a kiosk for sale of snacks, çdrinks, etc.
