This single storey painted brick and iron residence, in the Federation Queen Anne style, has cultural significance because: it was adapted from residential to hospital purposes in the InterWar period, when it was known as Nurse Piper's, and later adapted back to residential purposes; it is part of a cultural group and a townscape area.
The residence is now rundown and a shadow of its former lively presence. Much of the exterior facade to the street is intact apart from the loss of verandah posts and details. The original house would have been red face brickwork with contrasting render details. The contrast in colours and finishes has been lost.
Numbers 28, 30 and 32 Irvine Street were all built in the first decade of the twentieth century and form a group. Between c.1913 and 1930 No 32 operated as a private hospital known as 'Nurse Piper's'. Some historical significance. The place is a straightforward example of a Federation Queen Anne bungalow with a distinctive gable treatment. It has a moderate level of integrity. The place is part of a cultural group. The place is part of a townscape area.
Verandah posts replaced, Adapted for hospital purposes in Inter War period & subsequently reverted back to residential. Front verandah is now a pergola.
