The site represents a way of life no longer practiced. It has associations with many identities and settler of all generations in Kondinin.
After the town of Kondinin was surveyed in 1914, the Commonwealth acquired lots 17 and 18, in May, prior to the auction in October 1915. A liquor licence was reserved for the "State Hotel" and therefore no other premises in Kondinin had a licence until Reidy-Croft built the hotel. The hotel was subsequently built on Lot 66 Rankin Street, by Sidney Reidy-Crofts . He had spent 3 years at Kokerby Hotel (between Beverley and Brookton), and when moving to Kondinin, he deconstructed the hotel and transported the bricks to Kondinin with the intention of using them to build the hotel. However, possibly there were restrictions about second hand materials for the hotel, and he built four shops. The shops were located over the road from the hotel (lot 67), and included Sam Nicholaides Store, a betting shop and Reidy Croft's son Selby's men's store. Those shops burnt down on c1967 on grand final night after Kondinin won. Reidy-Crofts was an Englishman from NSW, and came to WA with the JC Williamson Opera Company. In 1925, he took the architect of the hotel (who??) to the Supreme Court for alleged negligence. In 1927, he left Kondinin, and went to Wiluna and built the largest corrugated iron hotel in the southern hemisphere. One of Reidy-Croft's daughters married Ernie Turpin, and he and his brother took over the hotel, with Mr & Mrs Connaughton in charge by 1928. The Kondinin Hotel was the only two storey hotel on the Yilliminning-Kondinin railway line. In November 1982, a fault in the hot water system caused the destruction of the hotel by fire. Another hotel replaced the former. It is of a contemporary design, one storey with associated motel units.
