Statement of Significance

The site represents the railway line and all that it meant to the developing wheatbelt.

History

The railway line passed through Bendering in 1917 as the first stage of the Kondinin to Narembeen extension of the Yilliminning-Kondinin line. Narembeen was subsequently the railhead until 1925 when the line opened through to Merredin. Bendering Siding often needed two engines to get the fully laden locomotives northwards out of the siding, and coming south into the siding the brakes were on from the top of the flat. A shelter shed was located at the siding. The railway water tank was also located in the siding to provide essential water supplies to keep the steam trains running.
