Statement of Significance

The place represents a community achievement for the benefit of the community.

History

The Wickepin Pool was officially opened on 27 December 1979. The Wickepin Lions club had been fundraising for six years, and raised $30,000 towards the finance of the project. The fundraising endeavours included shearing, burns, donations, cabarets, a d picketing the weighbridge. The pool was actually completed in time for a school swimming carnival on 27 March 1979, where children from Wickepin, Yealering and Tincurrin Schools competed. In October 1987 leaks were detected in the pool. The pool provided a very welcome recreation facility in the town, and annual vacation swimming lessons, and in-term swimming lessons have improved the swimming abilities of the children in the district.
