Although very little remains the site of the Old Doodlakine Townsite has considerable historic significance for its role in the development of the district especially along the Old Goldfields Road.
Located at the intersection of the Old Goldfields Road and the Doodlakine-Kununoppin Road, all that remains of the old Doodlakine Townsite are some foundations and a low brick wall.
The Old Doodlakine Townsite was a major stop on the Old Goldfields Road. The construction and opening of the railway in 1893 resulted in the decline of the town.

Constructed from 1926
The Doodlakine Tavern has considerable historic and social significance as a business and social premise which has operated in the town since 1926. Further it is evidence of the continued emergence of a number of small towns along the eastern goldfields railway. The building makes an important contribution to the streetscape of the main street in Doodlakine. Further it is representative of country hotels in terms of scale, position and design.
Situated on a prominent corner of the small town, the Doodlakine Tavern is a two storey building of brick construction with a hipped corrugated iron roof. The two storey verandah to the front (south) facade is supported on stop chamfered timber posts while the upper level features timber balustrading. The upper level has french doors leading onto the balcony from each room. The building has a white rendered band to 1 metre in height and corbelled brick chimneys. There is a single storey section to the rear with a skillion roof. Windows are timber framed and double hung. Internally there are pressed metal ceilings with the false ceiling having been recently removed. Please note that since this assessment was undertaken the building has been destroyed by Fire.
An article in the Northam Advertiser states that Mr James Hagerty a farmer from Cuballing, applied for a hotel licence at Doodlakine in August, 1906. "The plans provide for a nice brick hotel, containing about 20 rooms, and in the event of the licence being granted, would prove a credit to the town in many respects." [22/8/1906, p3] Further, it was anticipated the building would cost in the vicinity of £2,000. [Northam Advertiser, 5/9/1906, p3] Work on the original Doodlakine Hotel, which was designed by architect Ernest Edward Giles, did not commence until early 1907 due to delays in securing bricks and a lack of water. The bricks were transported from Perth while the water was carted. [Northam Advertiser, 6/3/1907, pi] An article in the Northam Advertiser in November 1907 indicates that the "host of the hotel" was Mr Connolly, while advertisement for the Doodlakine Hotel in the Eastern Recorder during 1910 list the proprietor as D.B. Robinson. [9/11/1907, p4] Local sources indicate that the present hotel building, the second Doodlakine Hotel, opened in 1926. It was destroyed by fire in March, 1997. Constructed from 1914
The fmr Doodlakine Post Office and Quarters has considerable local historic and social significance for its association with communications in the district. Further the place is evidence of the development of towns along the eastern goldfields railway. The building is an important element of the townscape given its commanding location, substantial scale and decorative detailing. It is representative of post Offices with attached quarters in country towns.
Located opposite the former Doodlakine Tavern on a prominent corner of the town, the former Doodlakine Post Office and Quarters is a substantial building of brick construction. The main part of the roof is gambrel in style with separate gablets over protruding sections of the building, including the main entrance which is enhanced by three archways. The place has separate verandah roofs supported on masonry columns, which are a later modification. There are two corbelled brick chimneys with rendered tops and air vents to the roof. Windows are a combination of double hung and casement with small panes.
On 23 December, 1898 Lot 11 was set aside as Reserve 6400 for the purpose of a post office. (Government Gazette, 23/12/1898, p3774) However it was not until 13 February 1914 that Lot 11 was purchased for a total of £75. (WA Archives: AN3, Acc. 1657, item 8665 & Australian Archives: file PP359/1, item 1913/14, CT 595/10) An article in the Eastern Recorder indicated that the new post office was anxiously awaited by the locals as the temporary post office was becoming most "inadequate to the requirements of the town." (9/1/1914) Tenders were called and the contract was given to Joseph Lake, a contractor from Cottesloe, for £1,500 on 29 April, 1914. (Government Gazette. 29/5/1914, p2218) The Doodlakine Post Office was officially opened on 5 December, 1914. (Avon Gazette, 12/10/1914) The building was used as a post office until 1978. Constructed from 1939, Constructed from 1938
The Former St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church has some historic and social significance for its association with the religious activities of the local community since the late 1930s. The place makes an important contribution to the historic built fabric of the town, it being an unusual feature owing to the use of weatherboards on a church. The Church has aesthetic appeal given its small scale, decorative elements such as the roof turret, and the construction materials.
The former St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church is a small timber framed building clad with horizontal weatherboards. The place has a corrugated iron gable roof with a separate lean-to roof to the rear. There is a small tower to the east side of the roof with a timber finial and air vents to all four sides. An entry porch is attached to the front (east) facade which has a gable roof with the same pitch as the main roof. Windows are timber framed and arched in the Gothic style. There is a second timber door to the north elevation.
In June, 1911 the committee of the Presbyterian Church in Kellerberrin decided to erect a church and manse on land adjoining the recreation ground. Until then Presbyterian services were held in the Agricultural Hall. [Place No. 1] [Eastern Recorder, 24/6/1911] The following month a working bee was held to clear the block in preparation for the construction to begin. [Eastern Recorder, 15/7/1911] On 10 September, 191 1 the opening services of the Presbyterian Church took place followed by a social evening at the Agricultural Hall. An article in the local paper described the building: "The church is a substantially built weatherboard structure, with seating accommodation for about 100 persons. The front portion is fitted up for church purposes, while at the back are four rooms which are used as a manse. The church has a jarrah dado running round it, and is lined with stamped metal. The building was designed and built by Mr McKay, and cost, with furnishings, about £300." [Eastern Recorder, 16/9/1911] Local knowledge indicates that the present church was built c 1938-39. The Church was used until 1976 when it and the Manse, which was adjacent, were sold privately. The Manse was later condemned and demolished in cl965.
Integrity: High Degree Modifications: Fibro cladding to lean-to.

The Daadenning Creek School Sites and the former school building have considerable historic significance for their association with the educational needs of the local community. They are representative of how schools were relocated to best suit the needs of the moving population and of the impact of improved transportation and centralisation of the education system. Furthermore, the former school building is evidence of the recycling of buildings for new uses.
The Daadenning School has been located at three different sites all within a short distance from the other. The first school site was located on the Daadenning Creek Road, opposite the grave of Hannah Horner. It was originally a tent school. The second school site was located further east, but still on the Daadenning Creek Road. The third school site was located at the intersection of the Daadenning Creek Road and Kwolyin Road. This school stood next to the hall which was built in 1919. Also adjacent were tennis courts which are still discernible. The school building is presently located on the 'Woodside' property off the Kwolyin West Road. It is a timber framed building clad with weatherboards with a corrugated iron roof. The roof extends to cover a lean-to roof to the east elevation. The building has a separate verandah to the north and two air vents to the roof. The former school building is in poor condition.
Following numerous letters and a petition from the local community permission was granted for the establishment of the Daadenning School in July 1910. The resulting tent school cost £124 and was opened in November. Shortly after there were moves to have the school relocated due to the shifting population. In March 1912 approval was given for the school to be moved at a cost of £40. The school reopened in November 1912. In May 1921 a decision was made to move the school to the hall site, this being completed in February, 1922. The Daadenning School remained on this site until it closed in December 1944. In January, 1946 the school building was sold to Mr G. Cole to be used as an addition to a house on his property about four miles away. The building jinkered to the 'Woodside' property. Single storey brick buildings with hipped corrugated galvanised iron (painted) roofs and extensive perimeter verandahs, some of which have been enclosed. The buildings are arranged to form a central courtyard. There is rendered banding on the bricks and the windows are double-hung. There are extensive gardens surrounding the buildings.
The construction of the Preventorium was instigated by the local publican and philanthropist Mr Stuart Patterson, who was similarly responsible for the erection or purchasing of other institutions for the benefit of ‘unfortunate little folks. The place was designed by architects Messrs Cavanagh and Cavanagh and built by Mr JA McKay for a cost of 6,300 pounds on ‘a large, elevated block of land overlooking the town and situated on the slopes of the north-west side of Kellerberrin Hill’. An article in a local paper described the proposed building: ‘The Preventorium will be free of class or creed distinctions and will accommodate about forty children of mixed sexes. The administrative block will be in the centre of the building with doctor’s room, community and dining rooms etc., adjacent with two dormitories on either side. There will be accommodation for a staff of six each housed in separate bedrooms. The site of the building is on high well-drained ground, well sheltered by Kellerberrin Hill from north-west winds. Special diet particularly suited to under-nourished children will be one of the main essentials combined with suitable sunbathing and plenty of recreative exercise in the playground adjacent’. The Preventorium, built for the benefit of under-nourished, delicate and later asthmatic children, was officially opened on 17 November 1929. The home, operated by the sisters of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart, was undenominational. Later, 2 March 1934, Stuart Patterson gifted the Kellerberrin Hotel to the sisters of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart, for the upkeep and financial security of the Preventorium.

Constructed from 1929
The former St. Joseph's Preventorium has considerable historic and social significance for the important role it played in the health of children and for its association with philanthropist Stuart Patterson. The place commands high townscape value and aesthetic significance, given its elevated position, large scale and workmanship in construction. As a purpose built institution of that era, the former Preventorium is quite unique within the district.
The former St. Joseph's Preventorium consists of a group of buildings of pointed brick construction which form a central courtyard. Set on a large block of land, the buildings have hipped corrugated iron roofs which are painted red. Some of the buildings have verandahs which are supported on timber posts. Fibro sheeting has been used to enclose sections of verandah to allow for additional living areas, while some buildings are connected by covered walkways. The main building features a separate gable to the entry porch which is via steps. There is a small timber cross to the apex of the gable which also features timber bargeboarding. A white rendered band runs along the length of the facade to sill height and above the windows. Windows are all timber framed and double hung. The surrounding gardens are well established and include a driveway lined with palm trees leading to a small roundabout in front of the building.
The construction of the Preventorium was instigated by the local publican and philanthropist Mr Stuart Patterson, who was similarly responsible for the erection or purchasing of other institutions for the benefit of "unfortunate little folks". The place was designed by architects Messrs Cavanagh and Cavanagh and built by Mr J. A. McKay for a cost of £6,300 on "a large elevated block of land overlooking the town and situated on the slopes of the north-west side of Kellerberrin Hill". An article in a local paper described the proposed building: "The preventorium will be free of class or creed distinctions and will accommodate about forty children of mixed sexes. Special diet particularly suited to undernourished children will be one of the main essentials combined with suitable sun bathing and plenty of recreative exercise in the playground adjacent."[Eastern Recorder, 10/5/1929, p5] The Preventorium, built for the benefit of under-nourished, delicate and later asthmatic children, was officially opened on 17 November, 1929. [Eastern Recorder, 22/1 1/1912, p5] The home, operated by the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart, was undenominational. [Sunday Times, 5/7/1936, p8] Later on 2 March, 1934 Stuart Patterson gifted the Kellerberrin Hotel to the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart, for the upkeep and financial security of the Preventorium.

The site of the former Woolundra Aboriginal Mission has some local historic and social significance for its association with the local aboriginal people. The site of the Mission is evidence of the role of religious organisations in aboriginal communities.
Situated north east of Kellerber rin on the corner of the Old Goldfields Road and Mission Road, all that remains of the Woolundra Aboriginal Mission are some foundations and tracks.
Operated by the Australian Inland Mission (Methodist Church), the Woolundra Mission included a school and a mission house. The Mission closed in the mid 1960s. [Local Sources]

Constructed from 1860
The Marronobbing Well has considerable historic significance for its association with the early pastoral industry. It has further significance for its association with Charles Hunt. It is evidence of the use of local stone.
Situated south of the Old Goldfields Road and near Mooranoppin Homestead [Place No. 22], the Marronobbing Well is a large, rectangular shaped soak which is stone lined. It has collapsed in part to the south.
The Marronobbing Well is marked by a plaque which reads: "This well was dug and lined with stone by farmer Robert Hardey prior to Charles Hunt's first visit to the area in March 1864. Hunt used it as a base camp in 1865 and although dry, reported that "it will make a very good reservoir to be filled by the first rains"."
