The Boscabel Hall has social and historic significance, having been built by local George Hunter and with the support of the local community. It has been used for most community and sporting events and gatherings, including for school and church services, and so has been a central part of the local Boscabel community life.
The Boscabel Hall is situated in an isolated rural setting, 4km off the Albany Highway. There is no landscaping around the building which is timber framed with timber walls. The gabled roof is corrugated iron. Double wooden entrance doors open into a small enclosed porch. The kitchen is located in an extension to one side. Water tanks next to the kitchen provide water to the kitchen. An exposed brick chimney is located on the external wall of the kitchen. Internally, there are wooden floors and pine ceilings (not the originals). One of the original pianos in the district is still in the hall, and is in working order. Behind the hall was the Boscabel cricket pitch and to one side was the old Boscabel School.
The Boscabel Hall was built around the 1917 by George Hunter and was financed by community funds. The timber is thought to have been cut and milled locally. It was opened in July 1919 by the Premier James Mitchell who was on tour of the Great Southern at the time. The hall was originally used for school and church services and over the years was used for many social gatherings and dances, by the Boscabel CWA and also for storing cricket equipment for the nearby cricket club. The hall is still used today for the Fire Brigade meetings and on Election polling days. The hall is maintained by the Boscabel Hall Committee, a group of local people.

This timber railway bridge over the Carlecatup River has rarity value as it is the only one of its type in the Shire of Kojonup. It has social and historic significance, given that rail transport played an important part in the economic development of the Kojonup district for many years.
This fine example of a timber railway bridge across the Carlecatup River is still in good condition. The bridge is supported by timber pylons with timber supports.
Carlecatup is an old siding located on the Katanning-Donnybrook line. It was part of the railway system from Katanning to Kojonup, which joined Kojonup to the Great Southern line around 1907. The bridge was built c1908. By 1918 there was agitation for a new bridge owing to the original being considered unsafe and impassable during rough weather. In 1920, work commenced on the new Carlecatup Bridge a short distance from original. The Road Board marked out the site which would remove the dangerous curve into the bridge approach but the works survey carried out went on a different alignment. In July 1920 work commenced by contractor Mr Louis Grant of Leederville 682/7/9 to a design by PWD. This was completed in December 1920 and the Minister for Works opened it. In 1926 there were redecking works and in 1928 it was gravelled. By 1929 a new bridge was needed, and so in c1930s/40 it was rebuilt and the original bridge destroyed. The rail lines have been removed.
Mostly intact. Railway lines have been removed.

The Changerup Hall is important as remote hall building built by and for the local community and which provided an important social and recreational hub. Although a simple design and utilising basic fabric, the Changerup Hall is a well executed and attractive building for its type and use of fabric and detailing.
Cement brick asymmetrical hall building, set on a rammed earth plinth and with a sweeping hipped half gabled iron roof . The hall features plain cement rendered lintels above all the windows and doors, an enclosed entry porch and engaged piers at regular intervals along the two main elevations. A small rudimentary skillion addition at the rear also constructed of cement bricks and iron, provides toilets and there is also a separate toilet block (ladies) located several metres away from the building.
Built by the community. In 1953, the Bollup branch of the Farmer’s Union applied for 15 acres of the Changerup Reserve for hall and recreation purposes. In the same year the Changerup District Recreation Centre was incorporated under Incorporations Act – to provide a meeting place for the holding of sporting and other social and welfare activities by the residents.

This place has historical and cultural significance particularly in relation to the strong Italian influence and settlement in the Changerup area.
The old Marinoni house is situated on a prominent rise overlooking the farm property. The house has stone walls and a corrugated iron roof. The walls ad roof are intact, but there are no doors and windows. There are two outbuildings, a laundry and a garage, constructed from cement blocks which have been left unpainted. The house is surrounded by mature trees and shrubs.
The Italian Consul visited Changerup in 1905 to assess the area as a possible location for additional Italian migrants. Some Italians, such as the Piani family, had already settled in the district. Subsequently, many more migrants settled in Changerup. These included the Leusciatti, Imberti, Vellotti, Gianatti and Marinoni families. These families have developed a strong community spirit in the Kojonup area. Angelo Giuseppe and Louisa Marinoni migrated with their 3 children to WA in 1911 from Britain. Louisa died in 1947.

Hollywood House has architectural, historical and social significance mainly in its association with the Solly family who were important members of the Cherry Tree Pool area and that it was the location for local schooling for many years.
Hollywood House is a brick structure with a steeply pitched hipped roof of corrugated iron. A verandah under separate roof runs the length of the house on two sides. The brick has been rendered and painted in recent times and the timber verandah posts have been replaced by metal poles. The house is surrounded by mature trees.
Location 2957 of 160 acres was first selected by John Solly in 1904 and the homestead built c1907. Solly called the property Evelyn Farm. He also added other properties to his estate. Solly was known for his dam sinking activities and he was also actively involved in establishing the first school in the Cherry Tree Pool area. School classes for local children were held on this property and accommodation was supplied for the teacher. Solly moved in 1908 and the subsequent owners, A.E. Cumming and his wife, changed the name to Hollywood House. School was held in the front rooms in 1917-18. After changing hands a few times, the farm was sold in two parts in 1965.

This building has historical significance on account of its association with the Jingalup area, which was settled in the early 1900's when the 'Jingalup Estate' was opened up.
The former Jingalup Golf Club, situated on the Jingalup Reserve, and now the Tennis Club is a timber framed and weatherboard clad building on stumps. The weatherboards are painted white. It has a high pitched corrugated Colorbond gable roof (red). The eaves overhang at each gable end is lined with timber batons and in each gable is a vent. The symmetrical building has a set back porch under the main roof. Historic photographs show an infill addition to the original building of two rooms at either end and extending out from the building, with a gable room. An impression of the former roof line of this addition can still be seen on the sides of the building. The front of the building has 4 sets of louvered windows set high up on the wall, a central front door and a second door at the end of the verandah. To the rear is a pair of three long double hung sash windows and a water tank on a timber stand. Although the original building would have had a timber front verandah, the current verandah is a later reconstruction which has been extended outwards to provide ramp access. Adjacent to the former school building is a timber framed and weatherboard clad shelter shed. This also has a corrugated Colorbond roof (red). The building is open to one and half sides and has a concrete floor. The buildings are set in a natural bush setting with a backdrop of tall trees and to the front are the tennis courts. There is a water tank on each building.
The Jingalup School was started in 1919 in a weatherboard shed on the Lee property, 'Mylerup'. The Agricultural Hall, built in 1920, was then used as the school until it seemed too small in 1954 and a school building was transported to the area (and possibly the shelter shed). The school was active with 65 pupils and three teachers. Children came by bus from Mobrup, Lumeach and Ryan's Brook to join the Jingalup children. The school continued until 1974. In the early 70's the 1920s hall, which was no longer used, was sold and transferred to the Calwell's property. The school building was then located at the Jingalup Tennis Club. The Shire distributed some of the proceeds from the sale of the school to Jingalup organisations.
Most of the original fabric is intact to both buildings. The front verandah is a later addition.

The place is a modest example of a timber road bridge constructed using sustenance labour.
The place has some historic value for its association with Albany Highway, a major inter-regional link facilitating agricultural expansion, imports and exports.
MRWA Bridge 0057, over Balgarup River, Albany Hwy, Kojonup is located on Albany Highway, and crosses Balgarup River, a tributary of Blackwood River. The 2 span bridge, constructed from timber in 1935, has a length of 11m, width of 9.8m and maximum headroom of 2.6m. The superstructure is round timber. The deck has a bitumen seal, concrete overlay on the road deck, and concrete over the abutments.
MRWA Bridge 0057, over Balgarup River, Albany Hwy, Kojonup was constructed in 1935 as part of a larger Main Roads project improving the condition of the Perth-Albany Road (Albany Highway) and all bridges on the route, as well as other roads in the area. The Perth-Albany Road was realigned at the Balgarup River crossing, with MRWA Bridge 0057, over Balgarup River, Albany Hwy, Kojonup replacing the existing bridge on the previous alignment. The road deviation is likely to have been due to concerns about the safety of the existing alignment, as the Kojonup Road Board raised concerns about the ‘bad and dangerous approach to the bridge’ in 1934. Since its construction MRWA Bridge 0057, over Balgarup River, Albany Hwy, Kojonup has continued to function as a road bridge. Notable upgrades to the bridge were the 12-foot (3.7 metre) widening on the western side of the bridge prior to 1968 and application of a concrete overlay on the road deck in 2005. Further research would be required to establish whether any extant elements or archaeological evidence of previous bridges, which could potentially include a convict-built bridge, remain at the previous crossing site.

Glen Lossie Shearing Shed - in its association with the Glen Lossie Homestead - has historical significance one of the earliest homesteads established in Kojonup and being associated with a number of eminent Kojonup residents over the years including: George Leake, George Maxwell, Thomas Chipper, Alexander Moir, Frederick Watts, Thomas Riley who built the stone barn, and James McHenry Clark who named the property "Glenlossie".
A substantial stone barn, with double wooden doors, and a series of four arched windows. The roof is corrugated iron.
The first owner of Location 7 (1,500 acres) in 1846 was George Leake. It would seem that George Maxwell, who was contacted to transport the mail between Kojonup and Perth in 1852, utilised a cottage built on the property. Thomas Chipper, who later gained the contract for the entire Albany/Perth mail service, is thought to have occupied the cottage for a time. He developed a staging post at Namarillup (the original name for the area) and he appears to have built a residence. Subsequent owners of the property were Alexander Moir, and Frederick Watts, who added to the house, and made substantial repairs. Watts also commissioned Thomas Riley to build the stone barn. A subsequent owner in 1904 was James McHenry Clark, who added to the north end of the homestead and renamed the property "Glenlossie". Charles Know Ross purchased the property in 1909. By then it was a substantial 9-roomed residence. Subsequent owners were Leonard Raymond Wilkie, Charles Herman Neumann, Walter Hawkins Penny (1926), and the Bell brothers (1943). In 1949 the property became part of a CSIRO research station, and in 1968 the Elverton Pastoral Co Pty Ltd purchased the homestead block. By 1989 this block had been further subdivided, separating the homestead residence with the shearing shed/barn which was converted to a restaurant.

The Baptist Church has social significance to the local Baptist community.
An asymmetrical church building, with clinker brick and low pitch gable and skillion roof. The front elevation has a vertical emphasis created by its windows and a vertical recess in the centre of the gable running from the ground to above the roofline, with an inverted V-shape cap reminiscent of the gothic tradition and housing a modest six sided stained glass window.

The Commercial Hotel has historic significance as the first and longest licenced hotel in Kojonup, originally established by the Elverd family. Although there have been many unsympathetic additions and alterations mainly to the front, the original fabric at the rear of the hotel and along the rooms has high aesthetic significance and should be preserved.
Depsite the front appearance of the hotel, the original face stone, brick quoining and iron roof fabric of the 1890s hotel building can be seen in-tact at the rear of the refurbished front part of the hotel. Separate corrugated iron 4-roomed cottage style staff quarters also at rear. Extensive additions and alterations in rendered brick (cement?) Originally Federation Free Style. Façade treatment has elements of Inter-War Art Deco. The original pressed tin ceiling in the dining room is still extant.
William Elverd was granted the first Kojonup publican’s license in 1868. Elverd’s hotel became the district’s social centre. Burnt down and rebuilt 1890s. Named Commonwealth by early 1900s when owned by Mr Gee. Owned by Mr C A Simms. Owned by A W (Bill) Partridge 1930s/40s who carried out improvements. Name changed to Commercial Hotel in late 1940s. Mr and Mrs Jack Garrity also associated with the hotel. In 1949 the hotel was taken over by Don Harvey Renovations 1952. Significant renovations carried out again in 1980s

The Kojonup Fire Station has some significance to the history of Kojonup, being representative of the need for substantial regional communities such as Kojonup to have a dedicated fire station with fire being an ongoing threat to the town and farmlands. The building is therefore worth noting for community interest but otherwise makes little contribution.
The fire station building is constructed of common cream brick, l-shaped with a projecting garage and residence set back. Each section has a low-pitch tiled hipped roof. It is a vernacular style and domestic in scale.
The Fire Station was built in 1962.

This building has aesthetic, historical and social significance. It is an important part of the history of transport and communication in the district.
The Kojonup Post Office is situated on the west side of Albany Highway in the centre of the Kojonup business area. Set back at an angle from the street, the Post Office includes both business space and living quarters. The building is constructed from red brick and has a corrugated iron roof and two chimneys. The entry to the Post Office is through a partially enclosed porch on the north side of the building. A side entrance is protected by a small corrugated iron canopy roof supported by timber brackets, projecting out at a 60 degree angle from the building. The windows are timber framed with small panes of glass. The grounds are enclosed by a fibro fence.
The original postal service in Kojonup was provided at the Barracks. Then the Post and Telegraph Office on Albany Highway was used, followed by the one on Spring Street built in the 1890's. The Kojonup population complained about the inconvenient position and cramped working space of that Post Office, and a petition was put to Sir John Forrest via the Kojonup Road Board for a new Post office. Tenders were called in March 1913 and awarded to Wagin building contractor, W. T. Deeble for a price of 1584/17/5. The Post Office was likely designed by Hillson Beasley, who was PWD Chief Architect from 1905-1917. The building was completed in January 1914 for a final cost 1610pounds. The previous Post Office (third) was used as teacher's quarters. An attractive attached residence was also included in the design. In 1993 the Kojonup Post Office was sold as a private franchise, to T & A Farina, who took over running the Post Office . Tony Farina was an ex Australia Post employee.

This building has aesthetic, historical and social significance. it was the first purpose built office for the Kojonup Road Board in 1909. Over the years the building has been used for a number of different commercial and community purposes, for example as a bank, tearooms and a shop. It has been the venue of the Women's Club since May 1954.
The original Roads Board building was red face brick with a verandah which was removed on 1965. The facade of the building has been rendered. The facade has an ornate parapet wall, with a gabled pediment and spherical finials. The entrance to the building is through a courtyard and side door, The timber framed window is adorned with wrought iron. Fibro extenstions have been added to the rear of the building.
Meetings of the Roads Board were originally held in the Agricultural Hall. In 1907, the Secretary wrote to the Lands Department requesting one of the blocks be granted to the RB from the subdivided police paddock. While waiting, meetings were then shifted to Secretary A J Magrath's office in the main street. The Road Board built on town block 122 for a cost of 254pds. The architect was Austin M. Bastow (who worked in partnership with Harold Boas). The new RBO was opened on 11 December 1909 by Arnold Piesse. In 1910 a picket fence was erected. c1915, a tool shed was erected at the rear and a front verandah. The Road Board occupied the building until 1929 after which it became the Agricultural Bank, then Thring's Haberdashery Shop and in 1954 the Women's Club.
Integrity - Medium Authenticity - Medium External walls are the only part of the original structure which remains. Modifications: Shop entrance bricked up, brick wall on High St.

The spring was important to the agricultural success of the area called Namarillup, now called Glen Lossie. The spring is significant as the site of the stopping place between Perth and Albany.
A picture of the Namarillup Well shows a ring of stones, forming a rough wall.
The Namarillup Well was fed by the Namarillup Spring, which was near to where Thomas Chipper, the policeman turned cartage and mail contractor, settled in the 1850's. After 1857, Chipper provided an essential mail service linking Perth to Albany. He finally sold his property when he was in financial difficulties in 1880, but continued to live there until 1888.

The Police Station House has architectural and historical significance. The dwelling was built to house the officer-in-charge of the Police Station when the police services relocated from the Barracks. The house has survived some of Kojonup's worst floods over the years and is still used as a police residence. The Police Quarters has a strong sense of place, in conjunction with the adjacent Police Station and Courthouse, having been the site of the police presence in Kojonup since the early 1900s.
This rectangular shaped, Federation Bungalow style house is situated on Albany Highway next to the Police Station and Courthouse which have been built on the site of the old police station. Built on a brick foundation, it has very thick walls which appear to be rendered brick but are more likely to be rammed earth/stone. The windows are small with timber frames. The steeply pitched gable roof extends to cover a front verandah, with timber flooring and posts, which has been partly enclosed with shade cloth. There is a timber extension to the rear and two large cypress trees grow in the front garden.
Built in 1907 to house the Police officer in charge, and still used as police accommodation.

The shop has historic and social significance as an early shop in the main street of town which has a high level of authentic fabric and its original design still evident despite the modified entry. It contributes aesthetically to the streetscape in the main commercial hub of town.
Brick and iron combined shop and residence, with the shop being an L shape with a projecting wing to the street and a large window and a gable roof hidden behind a simple stepped brick parapet. The other section has a hipped roof, which may have been the original residence but now provides the entry to the shop.
