The Railway Station has historic, social and aesthetic value and has been permanently entered on the State Register of Heritage Places.
This rectangular weatherboard station building has a verandah under a broken backed roof across the front elevation. The ridge of the red tiled roof is capped with ornate tiles. The verandah is supported by timber posts. The gables on the side elevations feature wooden trim. Other features of significance in the railway station precinct are: -A metal railway crane which appears to still have all its parts intact. -Two corrugated iron sheds which have been painted in the past -A stone and cement ramp, used for loading stock. -A row of tall eucalypt trees (spotted gums) which provide dense shade.
The arrival of the railway in Kojonup in 1907 was an extremely important milestone for the district. Prior to this, Kojonup had been overlooked when the Great Southern Railway from Albany and Beverley was built. Neighbouring railway towns like Broomehill had prospered with the impact of the railway link. The Kojonup connection from katanning was a light rail system, with 31 miles of line. The Kojonup terminus cost seventeen thousand, one hundred and ninety seven pounds and five shillings. The railway beccame important as a means of passenger transport, and for transporting livestock and agricultural produce. The station building has been freshly painted and is presently used as a base for the Kojonup Tourist Association.

Constructed from 1916 to 1919
The buildings at Marribank have aesthetic, historical and social significance, and the place has been permanently entered on the State Register of Heritage Places.
The Marribank complex has a number of buildings. Our photographic records show three residential type buildings, and one hall (school). The residential type buildings are constructed in a similar style, with stone walls, brick quoining on the corners and around the doors and windows, and a verandah under separate roof across the front elevation. One of the buildings has a prominent wing in the gabled facade and a large central window. The roofs are corrugated iron. The hall is a large rectangular stone building, with a steeply pitched gabled roof. It also has brick quining on the corners and around the doors and windows.
In 1905 Marribank was gazetted as a place for the Aboriginal people of the Cherry Tree Pool district. It was considered a good area for settlement because of the natural pool of fresh water. In 1914 the WA State Government declared the area a native mission. A school with some amenities was established, and the administrator and a teacher were appointed. During WWI some stone buildings were erected. The stone was quarried and carted by the Aboriginal people of the Mission. After the war Marribank became known as a settlement instead of a mission. The settlement was closed in 1922 and the land was leased out for farming. It was reopened in 1933 and has had a number of organisational changes. It has been guided by the Native Affairs Department and the Baptist Union. The Mission/Settlement changed hands in 1989 and at that time a large Aboriginal community still lived there.

The building is important as the only historical cottage of this type in the area and for demonstrating the vernacular construction of the period. It also demonstrates the modest living condition of a member of the Enrolled Pensioner Guard. The building in its present role as a museum is valued by the community for additional purposes. The place has been permanently entered on the State Register of Heritage Places.
Elverd's Cottage is located on the outskirts of Kojonup in open fields, with only a few neighbouring buildings, widely scattered. There are a number of large pine trees and various shrubs and flowering plants in the front garden. A fig tree and loquat tree are evident. Garden beds of geometric shrubs are outlined by field rocks. This simple cottage, built in c1854, originally consisted of two rooms, 14x13ft, with a third room being added onto the north end of the building at a later stage. The steeply pitched roof was originally of thatch which was replaced with corrugated iron at some time before the 1930's. initially the building had no ceilings and earthen floors. A bullnosed galvanised iron vernadah, front and back, has been added to the original cottage, as have the weatherboard structures at each end of the rear verandah. The verandahs have timber floor. Inside the main room is a large fireplace with a simple timber surround. The interior floors are made of wide timber beams. The rooms are simply furnished with furniture left by the last resident, Charlie Elverd, who died in January 1979. The cottage has been owned by the Shire of Kojonup since 1982 and is a cultural museum.
This cottage is historically significant, having been built in 1854 by William McDonald, a member of the Enrolled Pensioner Guard. It was transferred to the Elverd family in the 1880's and remained in the family until Charlie Elverd died.
