The old swimming pool has historic and social significance for its role in the recreational activities of Mount Magnet residents in the past.
This large cement lined pool is located immediately west of Mount Magnet. A 'slip pole' is positioned across the width of the pool. The cement lining has crumbled in places to reveal the rock and sand internal construction. A ladder of the diving board is at the deep end of the pool.

The Railway Bridge has historic significance for its association with the operations of the railway in the town. Together with the Station Master's House [Place No. 15], the Railway Workers' Houses [Place No. 16], railway platform [Place No. 18] and the railway dam [Place No. 17], the Railway Bridge assists with the interpretation of local railway heritage and history.
Located near the Railway Dam, this bridge is constructed of stone with concrete supports and solid timber beams. The remains of the railway track lie on top.
The railway line reached Mt Magnet in 1896. The Meekatharra-Mullewa line closed in 1978. [Drawn to Mt Magnet, p224]

The Masonic Lodge has considerable historic and social significance for its association with a community organisation. The place has further significance as a substantial building on a prominent corner in Mount Magnet and commands high streetscape value. Further it reflects the common use of corrugated iron as a building material throughout the district.
The Masonic Lodge is a large rectangular shaped timber framed building clad with corrugated iron. It has a gable roof and features an extension at the rear constructed of asbestos sheeting with a similar corrugated iron roof. The windows have been removed and replaced with metal sheeting. There are two outdoor toilets at the rear.
On 4 August, 1903 a meeting was convened in the Warden's Court to discuss the formation of a local Freemasons Lodge. At subsequent meetings a petition was drawn up for the formation of the Lodge to be known as 'Zenith' and was duly consecrated on 2 November, 1903 to become No. 65 on the Register of the Grand Lodge of Western Australia of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. Meetings were formerly held in a building located on the corner of Hepburn and Richardson Streets. The Lodge purchased allotment 185 on the corner of Richardson and Attwood Streets for 25 pounds. In 1905 the members purchased the Mechanics' Institute (or Workers' Hall) from Lennonville for the sum of 60 pounds and engaged a contractor, Mr R. Campbell of Lennonville, to dismantle the building and reerect it on their land. In 1906 Wor. Bro S.W. Roberts of Perth was engaged to paint and supply the furnishings for the new hall which included at that time a pictorial freeze on the upper walls. The new Lodge hall was dedicated on 6 July, 1906. The former Hill 60 Mine Manager's House has some significance for its association with the mine and its employees. It is representative of the type of construction for worker's accommodation in the area. The house also has considerable streetscape value, given its simple form, small scale and basic construction materials.
This is a small timber framed house clad with corrugated iron. It has a steep pitched gable roof with broken-back to the front and rear. The house has a verandah to the street elevation (east) which is partly enclosed with corrugated iron to the south-east corner. The verandah has balustrading lined with corrugated iron. A metal chimney is attached to the south facade. There is a lean-to at the rear.

• As a substantial stone building and located on a main street corner, the place has landmark value within the town.
• The place is associated with the development of the Mt Magnet town and the need to provide public services for people living in the area.
• From its construction in 1898 up to c. 1995. the place function as the main post office in the Mt Magnet area.
• The use of stone in the construction of the place is a reflection of the availability of local stone for building purposes and its use is represented in various public buildings throughout the town.
The place is a large single storey building constructed of local stone with a hipped CGI roof. The verandah is located under a separate CGI roof and is supported on round metal poles. The verandah has been partly enclosed on both sides and at the rear. It features two corbelled brick chimneys. The portion of the building right at the street corner appears to have been used for post office boxes, which have been removed and replaced with some sort of infill material.
Mail services began in Mt Magnet in 1893 and an official Post and Telegraph Office was opened in 1896. On 22 April 1898, tenders were called for the construction of a permanent post office building in the town. Incorporating the offices for the post and telegraph services and the residence for the post master and his family, the place was constructed using stone quarried in the vicinity of the St. George Mine. The post office was completed in June 1898 by builder H. Parker at a cost of £1,727/16/6. It was renovated in 1904 and again in 1912. In 1995, it was still in use as a post office but since this time has been sold and is now used solely for residential purposes.

Constructed from 1898
The Post Office and Residence has high historic and social significance for its role in communications in the district since 1898. The place also has considerable streetscape value and, owing to its substantial size, fabric and form, is a notable building in the town. It is a good example of public offices in a county town of that era.
Built to a standard PWD design, the Post Office and Residence is a large stone building with a hipped corrugated iron roof. The building has verandahs to all sides, some enclosed with asbestos sheeting and aluminium framed windows. The west facade has a brick render to the lower wall to a height of lm, possibly to alleviate damp problems. The place features two brick chimneys, air vents to the roof, timber framed double hung sash windows, and a wind vein on the roof. There is also an unsympathetic solarhart heating system on the roof. An outside toilet is located to the rear of the Post Office.
Mail services commenced in Mount Magnet in April, 1893 and on 15 March 1896 it became an official Post and Telegraph Office. [The Postal History ofWA] The present Post Office building was constructed in 1898, the tender for the Post Office being called on 22 April 1898. [Government Gazette, pi016] The stone used was quarried locally from near the St. George Mine. An article in the Mount Magnet Miner describes the building upon completion: "The mail room is about 20x18. The receiving boxes are fitted with bolted shutters which may be locked on the closing of a mail, leaving only the slot for late letters... The western end of the mail room has been partitioned off into a receiving room where telegrams may be written; this space is 18x10. Off the mail room is the operating department and the battery and store room, and here the signs of a failing treasury are noticeable in the whitewashed walls, whereas all the rest are neatly plastered. Opening from the mail room on the east is the postmaster's office, which again opens into the private apartments. The private rooms are reached from a cool and wide passage which runs through the building, and consist of three rooms and kitchen, pantry and bathroom. The living room is a fine spacious apartment 18x12. Two large tanks of a capacity of 1000 gallons are placed behind the quarters, and one of a similar capacity behind the office. A neat picket fence with fluted iron gates encloses the office on the western side and on the Naughton street frontage, the yard attached to the quarters is of post and wire with a top railing. The actual contract work has been well done and is a credit to the contractors, but the Department have exhibited a parsimonious policy in many points of detail which will infallibly cost them more money eventually than if they had done the work thoroughly at first. The verandah is just a bed of loose pebble dust which will rise in clouds when stirred by thousands of feet." The Post Office was renovated in 1904 by H, Hart, [Government Gazette, 4/11/1904, p2831] and again in 1912 by S. Ford. [Government Gazette, 14/6/1912, p2226]

The site of the Boogardie State Battery has high historic significance given its important role as a gold crushing facility to the local miners and prospectors.
Located approximately 5km north-west of Mount Magnet, the Boogardie State Battery was dismantle in 1994 to make way for the expansion of the large Saturn open pit.
In 1989 Western Mining Corporation's Hill 50 bought the State Battery which was situated close to its operations. The battery was one of six offered for sale by the Mint in April, the last of 60 operated by the defunct State Battery Service since 1895. [Drawn to Mt Magnet, p239] The battery was dismantled in 1995 and there has been community moves to have the structure reerected at the entrance to the town of Mt Magnet.

The former Mount Magnet Hospital has high historic and social significance for its long association with health services in the town. The place has further significance as a substantial grouping of buildings.
The former Hospital consists of a group of buildings around a central courtyard. The timber framed structures are elevated on timber stumps and are clad with sheeting and horizontal boards to dado height. The buildings feature surrounding verandahs with criss cross balustrading. The hipped corrugated iron roofs have a number of air vents and extend over the verandahs, supported on timber posts. The buildings have timber framed double hung windows as well as glass louvre windows. The main entrance is via steps with a rendered brick balustrade to the east elevation.
The Mount Magnet Hospital closed in April 1976 and was replaced with a Nursing Post. [Drawn to Mt Magnet, p218] The buildings are presently used for a variety of community purposes including a Toy Library, the Little Duckling Child Care Centre, a Playgroup, a Vet and an Arts and Crafts Centre.

Constructed from 1896
The former Railway Workers' Houses have high historic significance for their association with the railway line. They are typical examples of PWD railway buildings of the time, and together with the Station Master's House [Site No. 15], the railway dam [Site No. 17], bridge [Site No. 19] and platform [Site No. 18] assist with the interpretation of local railway heritage and history.
The houses are constructed of local stone with cement mortar and hipped corrugated iron roofs. With symmetrical facades the houses feature wide chimneys, recessed openings and timber double-hung sash windows with rendered sills. There are verandahs to three sides which are partly enclosed with corrugated iron. The kitchen and sleepout areas feature ripple corrugated iron walls. There are concrete floors to verandahs and stone chimneys. The Lounge and Bedroom to the main stone section of the houses have jarrah timber flooring.
The railway houses were probably built around 1896 when the railway line reached Mount Magnet. Westrail disposed of the houses in the late 1970s following the closure of the Meekatharra line in 1977. The present owner is currently restoring both buildings.
Integrity: High Degree Modifications: Original wooden verandahs have been replaced by concrete, separate laundry buildings have been demolished.

remnants assist with telling the story of the rise and demise of mining settlements.
Located north of Mount Magnet, all that remains of the Lennonville Townsite are the ruins of several buildings such as the blacksmith's shop and hotel, the railway platform and some mine shafts. Nearby is the site of the rifle range, the cemetery and the race track.
Prospectors Lennon and Parker discovered the Rock of Ages in what became known as the Lennonville district, formerly known as the Eight Mile and the Ten Mile. Interest was raised and the rich reefs of the area discovered which resulted in many people coming to the vicinity. A settlement started to develop. The townsite of Lennonville was proclaimed on 30 September, 1898. There were many mines in the vicinity of the Lennonville Townsite, including the Long Reef, Piedmont, the Gift, the Welcome and the Wheel of Fortune. These mines were in operation mainly between 1896 and 1906 attracting many people to the area. In 1909 a huge fire swept through the town, demolishing most of the main street. That same year saw the closing of the Lennonville State Battery. When the town demised many of the buildings were relocated to other towns, especially Mount Magnet and Boogardie, by jinker. Constructed from 1898
The Mount Magnet Shire Office has high historic and social significance as the centre for local government in the district since the turn of the century. The building has further aesthetic significance given its decorative facade and high streetscape value.
The Mount Magnet Shire Office is a brick building with a corrugated iron roof. The rendered facade features decorative detailing, such as a rendered string course and sill course, which is emphasised by the paint treatment. It has a polychromatic, parapet and triangular pediment over the entrance, which is via steps under an archway. Timber framed double hung sash windows with moulded sills are on either side of the double entry door which is panelled with a fanlight. A new brick extension to the rear of the building accommodates the Council Chambers. The verandah to the southern elevation is also a later addition.
The Mt Magnet municipality was formed in 1896. On 4 June 1897 Reserve 4117, Lots 162 and 163 were set aside for municipal purposes. [Government Gazette, pi073] The foundation stone for the Shire Office was laid by Mrs May Smith on 23 September, 1898. An article in the Mount Magnet Miner describes the new building: "The new Municipal Chambers has a frontage of 41ft to Hepburn Street by a depth of 43 ft along Naughton Street. The architecture is of the composite order and presents a very striking appearance. The entrance hall gives access to three large and lofty rooms; the one on the right being the town clerk's office and contains a strong room of 3ft 6in x 3ft 8in by 6ft high; at the end of the passage is the council chamber. This is a fine room, 22x18, lighted with three windows. The ceiling is painted a nondescript color, best designated a neutral tint aggravated by a Brunswick green moulding. The dado is certainly a redeeming feature, being a dark olive green surmounted with an ivory frieze... The plastering of the hall generally and particularly the front, has been done by Messrs Bradshaw and Roberts of Perth, and reflects the highest credit upon their abilities as tradesmen. The contractor for the building was Mr W.H. Kretchmar and was carried out under the supervision of Mr F. Bowen." [10 December, 1898, p3] On 26 November, 1907 a fire gutted the Council Chambers, leaving only the four brick walls standing. Council books and records were lost in the fire. [Drawn to Mt Magnet, pi 14]
Integrity: High Degree Modifications: There is a recent brick addition to the rear of the building.

The Outdoor Picture Theatre has considerable social significance to the local community as a popular source of entertainment, especially during the 1960s and 70s prior to the introduction of video recorders. The place has further rarity value as one of only a few remaining outdoor theatres in the district.
Situated on the corner of Hepburn and Naughton Streets adjacent to the Mount Magnet Anzac Memorial Hall, the Outdoor Picture Theatre consists of a viewing area enclosed by corrugated iron fencing and a brick entrance wall to the street (west) elevation. The projection room, positioned above the brick entrance, is clad with asbestos sheeting and features a skillion roof. A small white screen is located at the east end of the theatre.
