Physical Description

Large single-storey brick and iron residence built early 1900s with a double-storey extension on the rear. House has gambrel roof with rendered roughcast gable, full length bullnose verandah and split pane, double hung sash windows with decorative timber sills. House is set back at some distance from street allowing for a large front garden.

The place is associated with the growth of Guildford in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Single-storey weatherboard and iron house built 1927. House has verandahs on three sides with straight pitch roof over and a front bay window. House originally had five rooms and kitchen. Building layout now consists of three bedrooms, sitting room, bathroom, detached laundry and toilet and workshop.

Original owner bought the land in 1924 and had house built in 1927 by Douglas Jones & Co.

Physical Description

Single-storey weatherboard and iron house c.1910. House is Federation style with skillion verandah and overhanging gables. Home had stable at rear, now converted. Internal front rooms & hall have ornate pressed metal ceilings in excellent original condition. The verandah on the eastern side was converted and extended connection to main bedroom.

History

Weatherboard house built for W.D. Johnson MLA, friend and colleague of Labor Premier Scaddon. Mr Johnson was a long-time member of Midland-Guildford/senior Labor Politician and was involved in wheat growing as the Director of Westralian Farmers.

Single-storey brick and tile house c.1930. Half rendered brickwork.

History

Land was owned by Douglas Jones. House built for Mr Clarence Shalders who was employed by W. Padbury in the men's wear section in the store in Terrace Road. Shalders later built a drapery store at 165 James Street on the former site of the open air picture theatre. When he was married he became Mayor of Guildford from 1952-54. One of his sons later became MLA for Bunbury.

Physical Description

Large brick and iron Federation style house with ornate timber decoration and fine leadlights built early 1900s. House has original hand painted tiles in dining room, fireplace of Loch Duneam. Unusual timber awnings. Main beam of home is QLD cedar, Oregon doors with cedar inserts. Dining room fireplace cedar, original skirtings, architraves.

History

Mr Macaulay became Lord Mayor of Guildford and was noted local identity. Managed Hadfields foundry in Bassendean. In 1941 he died in office. Some alterations were made to house in 1950s when the Miss Middleton sisters acquired the property.

Statement of Significance

Building forms part of remnant building stock which makes up historic town's fabric.

Physical Description

Large single-storey Federation style villa c.1905. Building constructed in brick and tile. Has lost its original iron roof. Facade is symmetrical with two small decorative gables over a lowered pitch verandah. Verandah returns around southern side of house. Other features include central front door flanked by two double hung sash windows. Height of the roof is accentuated by two tall chimneys with rendered corbelling. The house has original coloured leadlight doors at the entry and to the lounge off the south side verandah.

History

Builder, James Rodgers, was responsible for the construction of a number of distinctive Federation style homes around Guildford and particularly in Waylen Street.

Single-storey Federation style villa c.1905. Built with brick and a recently restored iron roof (1995). House has lowered pitch verandah with decorative timber fretwork. The house has an original stained glass front door.

History

Builder, James Rodgers, was responsible for the construction of a number of distinctive Federation style homes around Guildford and particularly in Waylen Street.

Physical Description

Single-storey Federation style house c.1905. Built with brick and iron. Details include twin decorative gables, lowered pitch verandah, turned verandah posts, double hung sash windows, central front door, fanlight and sidelights, two tall chimneys with rendered corbelling. The building is symmetrical in design. House has a similar layout to 1 Waylen Street, and has coloured lead lighting to the front door and lounge room, south side of the verandah.

History

Builder, James Rodgers, was responsible for the construction of a number of distinctive Federation style homes around Guildford and particularly in Waylen Street.
