The site has associations with war.
During World War Two fuel was stored in the natural bushland on the site. it was also stored just west of Ballidu town on location 1269 (Rannard's), and where the airfield is now located. The army patrolled and guarded the sites, and the civilian fuel supplies in Ballidu were guarded by the Ballidu VDC.

Constructed from 1936
The place demonstrates a way of life associated with occupations in Ballidu. The place has considerable main street streetscape and townscape significance and represents a character of Ballidu.
The place is constructed on cement bricks and red clay bricks (!?) It has a gable roof which is concealed from both street frontages by a parapet wall. The corner is truncated. One shop is located on the corner while another shop entry is located in Alpha Street. There is evidence of a verandah around the street fronts of the shops. Timber framed shop windows face both streets, with windows on the Alpha St side, and the double glazed entry doors on the truncated corner. The residence is visible on the Fairweather St side. The verandah frontage is enclosed with horizontal batons.
COMMERCE In the 1930s, Ernie Kirkby ran his bakery shop from the corner shop, with the bakery ovens located elsewhere. In 1953, Vic Pugh built a bakery next to Wesfarmers, (and this one closed???). During the 1950s, Evans established the shop as a tearooms which was popular on picture nights at the Ballidu Hall. Freestone and Collett continued the tearooms before it became a dress shop. More recently it was the office of Dunn's Aviation, aerial spraying contractors, and it was vacant in the late 1990s. The shop facing Alpha Street was run by George Brommell as a drapery and clothing store.

Built in 1923, Ballidu State School and Grounds comprises a single storey, timber framed, weatherboard clad structure with a corrugated iron roof. A school flat was attached to the rear, but this was removed in 1970. The place consists of a main teaching block, art room, pre-primary transportable classroom, gardener’s shed, AND open undercover area.
Prior to a school being constructed on this site, the original (former) hall provided a venue. On the 4 September 1922, the school opened in the hall with 17 students. In September 1923 a new school was constructed on this site and opened in 1924. A "school flat" was attached to the rear of the school, the room provided accomodation for the female teacher. In 1959, it was still the female teacher's quarters, but in c1970 it was removed, and a GEHA house provided on a different site for teacher accommodation in 1972.

Constructed from 1922
The place has significant associations with the settlers and development of Ballidu since 1923, and prior to that at the original site. It is integral within the townscape character of Ballidu and contributes to the mainstreet streetscape.
One storey rendered brick construction with a parapet along the street frontages, and a verandah. The roof is clad with corrugated iron. The corner is truncated.
After reconstructing the hotel on this site, it was a replica of what it had been in the previous site. By the decorative timber fretwork of the column brackets and balustrading had been replaced, and the face brick with rendered reveals and banding, had been painted over. During the 1950s the school teachers were accommodated at the hotel. This caused some problems for the Christian young lady school teachers. In the late 1950s the hotel was the core of much social activity in Ballidu, with an upstairs lounge (complete with piano) which provided a venue for meetings. The back room on the ground floor was the hairdressing salon on Thursday evenings. A fire destroyed the top storey of the hotel, three days before Christmas in 1980. Fire fighters from three towns fought to save the building. The top storey was destroyed and the lower storey was refurbished and is all that remains today

The site demonstrates an association with the development of transport and commerce in Ballidu. The place is integral within the main street streetscape and character of the townscape of Ballidu
Timber framed fibro clad with a gable roof. The corrugated iron roof also has a skillion over the front of the shop.
This building is the site of the blacksmith shop which was later demolished as the Kardomah Tearooms (shop on the west which is now connected) expanded their operations. In the mid 1950s the Stitts purchased the store next door, and constructed a Showroom on this site to sell tractors and cars. They also took a Beaurepaire's Tyre outlet and Ford Motor Agency as well as handling Zephyr cars. A fuel bowser on the edge of the footpath provided retail fuel. Later the shop next door and this one merged to become the Ballidu General Store.

The railway line from Wongan Hills reached Ballidu in May 1912 and linked to Mullewa in June 1912. On the 1st January 1914 a post office receiving office was established at Ballidu. H. Carter was the first person to receive a permit to build in the Ballidu townsite in September 1922. He built and operated a grocery store, Post office and phone exchange (from 1926). Although the hotel had previously established away from the townsite, it relocated in the townsite in 1923, opposite the railway station on the corner of the main streets. Other commercial establishments commenced trading in that vicinity, and in 1929 the Ballidu Town Hall was constructed on the corner looking down the commercial centre of Ballidu through to the railway station.

Constructed from 1930
The place demonstrates the development of machinery and technology in Ballidu. It was a purpose built showroom, of which there were few at the time, and very few remaining. It makes a considerable contribution to the character, mainstreet streetscape, and townscape of Ballidu
Cement block construction. The gable roof is clad with corrugated iron as is the skillion verandah extending over the pavement. The frontage has a shop window and two sets of glass doors allowing an opening large enough for a motor vehicle. The three timber columns are unequally spaced to allow for the vehicle access. The parapet is stepped and rounded with a centre circular "General Motors Holden" emblem, and the name of the service station.
Harry Goodie first operated the shop as an agency for Massey and General Motors Holden. In 1951, Goodie and Garrety were the proprietors, and later Bert Beilby bought the store and his son in law Norm Johnson ran the agency. (was there in 1956). Norm built a workshop behind the showroom to service tractors and cars. In 1964, B Court and B Castledine took over the Massey Ferguson agency and the garage, but it was not a successful venture for them, and they left. The place remained empty until the late 1970s, when Jack Shaddick owned the place and Bev and Terry Mailey managed the garage, and established an amusement parlour in the showroom. In the early 1990s, it was again vacant. It has since been used as offices, and a craft retail outlet.

Timber framed, fibro clad, gable roof with break pitch extension all around, including the shop front.
The place was originally a garage with a GMH logo on the facade (much like the craft shop see Ref No ), with the convenience of the blacksmith next door. In the early 1930s Bill and Belle Curtis converted the garage into tearooms, with Mrs (Grandma) Curtis and Mrs Squires running the shop. They sold lollies, drinks, icecreams and were well known for the fresh scones on Saturdays. After they moved to Jarrahdale, Mrs Squire's daughter Eileen, and her husband Bill Morton took over until Mr & Mrs Toster purchased the place in 1946. At that time they extended the shop to include drapery and work-clothes, deli lines, meals and school lunches, as well as Mr Toster running a barber shop. Mrs Toster made ice blocks every night and Mr Toster's meringues were well known. After they moved to a war service property in 1950, several other proprietors have run the place as a general store.

The place has associations with the Wallis family who were pioneers of the Ballidu district.
In 1909, when the Wallis brothers, William and Richard, travelled to the region, the furthest settler was Gus Finke near Kokardine. The Wallis brothers went another 10 miles north towards Balli Balli Soak, and set up camp 3 miles east. They subsequently selected land for themselves and their sons. William and his wife Alice settled east of what is now the Ballidu townsite, and after a few months a bush house replaced the tent accommodation. The site of the bush house is near the existing front gate of the property.

Built in 1923, Ballidu State School and Grounds comprises a single storey, timber framed, weatherboard clad structure with a corrugated iron roof. A school flat was attached to the rear, but this was removed in 1970. The place consists of a main teaching block, art room, pre-primary transportable classroom, gardener’s shed, open undercover area, three water tanks and playing fields to the north and west.

The site represents a way of life associated with the hospitality and social life of the early Ballidu settlers which is no longer practised.
The cellar of the hotel is still evident on the site.
The hotel was strongly opposed by William Wallis. The hotel was constructed on this site in anticipation of the proposed railway line. However when the railway line was constructed, it was some distance away from the hotel. The hotel was deconstructed brick by brick and relocated and reconstructed to the same design, less than a kilometre away in the Ballidu townsite in 1923. (see Ref No.)

The site has associations with technology and services in Ballidu, and commemorates the pioneers.
The site was first occupied by Sid Craske's garage. Later Duncan Hordacre ran the garage. When Wally Townsend bought the house next door and this property, he demolished the garage to eliminate the noise. The community park now has a permanent display of early agricultural machinery, which established after Wally Townsend donated the land and material, in 1973, to commemorate the pioneer families of Ballidu.
