Social significance to the local community as a local pre-primary centre.
Single storey painted brick and terracotta tile gable and half timbered roof building. The decoratively painted façade features 'Hazel Orme Community Kindergarten est. 1923’.
A certificate of title shows City of Fremantle as owner of the place on a new title from July 1933. The title covers five lots facing Samson Street and the matching five facing Watkins Street, being part lots 16-25 of Fremantle Lot 79, and creating one large area bounded by Watkins, Samson and Nannine Streets. A 1969 newspaper article describes Hazel Orme Kindergarten as being in South Terrace, but about to move as the facilities were’ inadequate and unsuitable for present-day kindergarten teaching’. A photograph shows a weatherboard building with timber battens and weatherboards to dado height. The roof is hipped and gabled, of corrugated iron, with a skillion entrance porch making up a large corner. The article states that the kindergarten was built in 1932, when it was acknowledged as a model kindergarten for the state. Hazel Orme, for whom the place was named, was director of the first kindergarten in Fremantle, which operated out of the (now demolished) RSL hall in South Terrac

Constructed from 1938
36 Samson Street has cultural heritage significance for the following reasons: The place has aesthetic significance as an interesting example of an Inter-War Era house that shows some of the influence of the Californian Bungalow style; it is surrounded by nine heritage listed properties (excluding 38 Samson Street) mostly constructed during the Inter-War era. These properties combine to form a strong and coherent streetscape which contributes to the character and heritage values of Samson Street and White Gum Valley; and its contribution to the heritage of Fremantle by its individual and collective aesthetic, historic and social values.
36 Samson Street is a good but late example of Inter-War Era house that shows some of the influence of the Californian Bungalow style with its asymmetrical design, half timbered gables and gambrel and masonry piers supporting timber verandah posts. The use of pre-cast concrete blocks was more common during the Second World War as traditional building materials were scare.
Built in 1938, for Mr Arthur E Read, 36 Samson Street, White Gum Valley has walls of pre-cast concrete blocks, which was a common during the Second World War as traditional building materials were scare. Arthur Edwin Read was a labourer and then a bus driver who was born in South Australia in 1908. He moved to Fremantle where he married Nora Parker Ford Vergin in 1938 and moved into their newly constructed house at 36 Samson Street in the same year. Nora's family owned the adjacent property at 38 Samson Street. They were married for 62 years. The house was visible in 1947 as shown in the earliest lands Dept aerial photograph. The current owners have occupied the place for over 40 years and are the second occupiers.

First built by John Bateman in 1880-81 as a 'cottage and piggery', the place was sold to John Middleton Ferres in 1882. Later the place was used as a dairy and for horse agistment. In the 1920s one of the front rooms became a grocery shop. (West Australian, 10 February 1993)

Constructed from 1918
House, 200 South Street is a single storey masonry and tiled house built c1918. The hipped roof is clad with terracotta tiles and has two tall brick chimneys. There is a broken back verandah roof on three sides which is supported by square timber posts. The front and side walls facing the streets is roughcast rendered painted brick. The other side and rear are face brick. The front façade has a central door flanked by timber sash windows either side of a large fixed pane. There are face brick window sills. A similar window is on the Nannine Avenue side. Verandah floors are unpainted concrete. The boundary fence is steel mesh.
In PO Directories, there are no residents or businesses between Montreal and Pearse Streets (now west of Wiluna through to Yalgoo Ave) in 1910. However, by 1913 there is a dairy established, Lane & Fletcher, operated by Charles Lane and George Fletcher. The house is most likely associated with the dairy, but further research is needed to confirm this. In 1917 there is an Albert William Walters in that section of South Street and Fremantle Rate Books show that rates were collected from a cottage on the lot by 1918/19 which gives a reasonably accurate date of construction for the house on the corner of Nannine Avenue and South Street. Note: Nannine Avenue was previously named Congdon St, then Chudleigh St before becoming Nannine Ave in 1933. In 1934/35 when there is street numbering allocated, the house is originally number 322. In 1939 through to 1949, when records cease, the house is given No. 188 and Charles Walters is residing there, suggesting that this is the same house occupied by Albert Walters in 1917. No. 188 later became No. 200, as confirmed by the 1949 sewerage map (No. 2191). The 1947 aerial photograph (Landgate) and the 1949 sewerage map shows a large complex over three lots (11, 10 & 9), with the house on the corner (Lot 11) and various galvanised iron sheds, outbuildings, ramps, a timber rack, iron rack, brick stand, wells, and so on; which matches that post office directory that there was a dairy on the site from 1913. The house at No. 192 (later 206) was also part of the same complex. Later aerial photos (Landgate) show that the rear (north west portion) of the lot is subdivided between 1965 and 1974 with a new house built at 24 Nannine Ave. The 1985 aerial photograph (Landgate) shows the large lot being redeveloped and after this, No. 202 is built. The footprint of 200 South Street has not changed, and it remains a square, hipped tiled roofed house as at 2017.

The Kim Beazley School has some cultural significance for the following reasons: the place has social significance to the local community as an educational support facility for children with intellectual and physical disabilities; mature plantings add to the streetscape of Stevens Street, where many houses have mature trees forming canopies, and the Royal Fremantle Golf Club is on the north side of the street opposite the place.
The site is bounded by Stevens Street (north), Hope Street (south), Nannine Ave (west) and Yalgoo Ave (east). The site of the former Kim Beazley School comprises mid to late twentieth century brick and tile or brick and iron domestic scale buildings. There are mature plantings on the site. There are classrooms, ancilliary buildings, bitumenised carparks and open play areas. A Heritage Assessment was prepared in Sept 2010 by Kelsall Binet Architects for a DA submission to Council (DA0348/10) for redevelopment of the site, including demolition of all but Sullivan Hall and Pigeon Racing Hall (Fremantle Men's Shed). Sullivan Hall and Pigeon Racing Hall, located on the western boundary facing Nannine Avenue, are timber framed with weatherboard cladding to window sill height, and fibrous cement sheeting above. They both had corrugated iron roofs. For more detail of the site, see the Heritage Assessment by Kelsall Binet Architects.
Kim Beazley School was an educational support school for children from ages two till eighteen years with moderate to profoundly severe intellectual and/or physical disabilities. The school is named after Kim Beazley Senior, a WA labor Party politician, who held the seat of Fremantle after PM John Curtin died in office in 1945.Beazley was Education Minister in the Whitlam Government. He retired from politics in 1977. The school was closed and relocated in 2008.
Low degree of integrity (no longer used, due to changing attitudes towards education of children with disabilities). Medium degree of authenticity externally with some original fabric remaining, and the streetscape intact. (These statements based on street survey only).
Condition assessed as fair (Heritage Assessment by Kelsall Binet Architects).
