Aesthetically significant as an example of Fremantle’s vernacular architecture. Typical timber framed single storey cottage dating from the first decades of the twentieth century. Historically significant as a representation of working people’s living conditions in the Fremantle area.
Single storey timber framed and weatherboard clad walls and a zincalume hipped roof house. The roof extends over the verandah which is supported by timber posts.
The house at 32 Watkins Street was constructed before 1901. It is timber with a corrugated steel roof. The lot number has changed and is not identified in earlier rate books. About 1985 it was declared unfit for human habitation by the health and Planning Department. Soon after, the house was repaired and advice sought on demolition and / or renovation. It would appear that some renovation has taken place since then. Notes made in 1985 say that demolition would not be opposed. On file at the Local History Collection: Notes from Brian Klopper architect in June 1985 with a plan for renovations.

The following places form a significant group and contribute to the streetscape of Watkins Street; 52, 56, 62 & 64.
In 1900 lot 24 of 84 and lot 25 of 84 were vacant lots owned by the Church of England. (Fremantle Rate Book records).

A cottage, with garden, is recorded on lot 14/15 of 79 in 1906/7. The owner, occupier was John Walsh, a Groom. (Fremantle Rate Book records).

Single storey painted stone and corrugated iron hipped roofed house. There is a chimney with corbelling and a bull nosed verandah which is supported by turned timber posts.
A residence is recorded on lot 4 of 29 in 1940. Physical inspection indicates that the house was built prior to this date.

Constructed from 1905, Constructed from 1906
House, 36 Wood Street, is a single storey timber and iron house dating from 1905. The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical building stock located within the residential areas of Fremantle. It is historically significant as a representation of typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Victorian Georgian style of architecture.
House, 36 Wood Street is a single storey timber and zincalume house designed as a simple example of the Victorian Georgian style of architecture. The walls are timber framed and clad with painted weatherboards. The roof is hipped and clad with zincalume. The façade is symmetrical with a central front door flanked on either side by timber framed double hung sash windows. The verandah has a separate dropped zincalume roof supported by timber posts. There is a timber picket fence to the front boundary line.
The land on which 36 Wood Street stands was vacant in 1904/05, and owned by Joachin Frederick Hagen. In the following rate period a cottage was built for Hagen and was occupied by James Dun Leavy, a labourer. In 1906/09 the cottage was owned by Mary Mitchell and occupied by Charles Mitchell. By 1920/21 ownership had passed to T Reading and the tenant was William Robert Hadley. From 1930/31 into the 1940s the owner was Alice Mildred Reading and the occupant was Marie Louise Heath. The house was originally numbered 14 and this changed to 36. The house is on Lot 4 of 1273.
