Constructed from 1919
Aesthetically significant as a fine example of Fremantle’s vernacular architecture. Typical single storey stone cottage dating from the late nineteenth to early twentieth century. Historically significant as a representation of working people’s living conditions in the Fremantle area.
Single storey single faced house, similar to 10 and 12 Wright Street. Constructed from stone and brick quoining and a zincalume hipped roof and a brick chimney. There is a bull nosed veranda supported by chamfered timber posts and weatherboard additions to the rear of the house. The following places form a significant precinct group and contribute to the streetscapes of Pilbarra, Wright and Yilgarn Streets; 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 11 12, 15, 16 & 17 Pilbarra Street, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 & 12 Wright Street, 3, 7 & 11 Yilgarn Street.
Lot 24 of 29 is recorded as a vacant lot in 1910. A cottage is recorded in 1919. On file at the Local History Collection: Photo from 1978.

Cottage number 1 was built on Lot 11b of 28 in 1917/18. A copy of a 1913 MWS & DD House Connection Progress Plan indicating a small timber building on the lot, but no building applications are recorded. Aesthetically significant as an example of Fremantle’s vernacular architecture. Typical timber framed single storey cottage dating from the first decades of the twentieth century. Historically significant as a representation of working people’s living conditions in the Fremantle area.
Single storey timber framed and weatherboard clad walls and a painted corrugated iron gable roofed house. The roof extends over the veranda and is supported by chamfered timber posts. The west side of the veranda has been enclosed. The following places form a significant precinct group and contribute to the streetscapes of Pilbarra, Wright and Yilgarn Streets; 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 11 12, 15, 16 & 17 Pilbarra Street, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 & 12 Wright Street, 3, 7 & 11 Yilgarn Street.
Rate books record this as a vacant lot in 1910. A residence is recorded on lot 1b of 28 in 1930. Physical inspection indicates that the house was built prior to this date. On file at the Local History Collection: 1978 black and white photo.

The dropped verandah is supported by timber posts and has a timber frieze and balustrades. There are weatherboard additions to the rear of the house. The use of limestone is part of the Fremantle landscape and gives the City coherence and character. Limestone walls were built around properties in Fremantle to prevent sand drift in response to an early building regulation dating from the 1830s. Limestone walls are one commonly encountered example of use of this stone as a building material, most of them dating from the 19th century and early years of the 20th century. Most of the limestone in small walls came from local quarries.

The roof has a brick chimney with corbelling and extends onto the verandah supported by chamfered timber posts. There are corrugated iron additions to the rear of the house.
