01962 Art Gallery & Museum Buildings

Physical Description

A limestone & shingle building of basement & 2 storeys originally cruciform plan with 4 arms of cells radiating from central administration & security rooms, since converted to museum use. As courthouse, and later as part of the Museum, the building has been associated with the public life of WA for many years and it holds an added interest on account of its use for a period as a convict prison. The place also contains what is believed to be Australia's oldest grape vine dating from the 1850s called 'Museum Muscat'.
