Statement of Significance

An early church of indigenous architectural character - small, simple, built of stone and corrugated iron; surviving from the original settlement at Bookara. The former church, no longer in use, and the ruins of the travellers Rest Inn opposite constitute the remains of the settlement.

Physical Description

Stone walls, CGI roof.
A simple rectangular stone church with pitched corrugated iron roof and later timber porch entrance positioned to protect the door at the front.

History

Possibly Methodist originally.
The settlement of Bookara was established where the road between Irwin and the Greenough Front Flats met the inland road to the east.
