Statement of Significance

The large farm machinery display under private management opened as a tourist attraction in 1979. The farm offices, sheds and fields are owned and run by the Department of Agriculture, A scenic drive can be taken to view flora and fauna around several kilometres of the farm which forms a nature reserve.

Physical Description

The old Homestead was built in 1850. The stables and loft were made of oregon.

History

The property forms part of an original grant to Capt James Stirling. Various owners include N Carey 1838, WM de Lisle, Lands Department 1911. In 1924, it was passed to the Department of Agriculture for use as a Research Station for student scientists. In 1931 a vaccine was found for a sheep disease "Pulpy Kidney", sometimes called Beverley Disease. A machinery display shed was opened by Prince Charles in 1979.
