City of Fremantle

Statement of Significance

The building has architectural merit as an example of Talbot Hobbs work in the Classical Revival style - a two storied facade stuccoed with classical detailing. The facade is a critical element in the streetscape of Croke Lane and the western end of the city and reinforces the character of the whole built environment of Croke Lane, a small street in which all the surviving buildings are classified. Any erosion of the streetscape through loss or alteration of building faades would lessent the integrity of the street.

Physical Description

A two storied stone facade, stuccoed and decorated in the Classical Revival style of Victorian architecture, designed by Architect J. Talbot Hobbs and constructed in 1890/1903. The facade is an addition to a former flour mill and warehouse which survives behind the facade.
