Statement of Significance

Architectural interest.

Convent: significant architecturally as a representative example of RC Convent buildings of the last decade of the nineteenth century. The establishment is important historically and socially as part of the Church's contribution to education in the state. Convent is of sociological interest due to its connection with Catholic education. The verandah columns are of architectural merit and the building is illustrative of Roman Catholic convents that were constructed in the 1890's.

Physical Description

Building of rendered brick with a galvanised iron roof, Special features: bell tower, slate roof.

Convent: Two storied rendered brick building with two storied verandahs to 3 sides, constructed in 1881 and extended later.

History

Church constructed in 1877, opened 16.1 1878. Bell hung 1895.
Builer: Mr Wood - contractor. Completed work in 10 months, cost: 1700 pounds to plans obtained by Miss Campbell while overseas. Bell made at Lyons Bridge, France.
