City of Busselton

Statement of Significance

Historical importance. Supposed to be third house built in Busselton. C. Bussell – one of the founders of Busselton. Original section supposed to have been and inn and former taproom to be present entrance hall and sitting-room. House contains some furniture brought to the colony in 1830.

Physical Description

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Long single-storeyed house with verandah and low-swept iron roof supported by wooden posts linked by union-jack railings; white painted, horizontal weatherboard walls. Kitchen with loft above – separated from main building but now joined by covered way – and original ceiling beams. Extensive lawns and gardens. Entrance hall once taproom of hotel kept by Charles Bussell.

Original Owner: Charles Bussell, bought in 1856 by Frances Cookworthy who made extensive additions.
Owners at date of assessment: Mr & Mrs James Willmott, great great-grandson of John Garrett Bussell.
