The place contains substantial evidence its mining history and is highly significant at the local level. The place has documented linkages with the Baddera Mines (Ml 37) and the Northampton State Battery (Ml 88), and also has general group value as one of a number of sites in the vicinity of Northampton.
Gurkha Mine, formerly known as Alma, was established in May 1901, by a Mr Harvey, and apparently quickly produced 28 tons of ore from a series of shafts and trenches. By June 1903, the mine had produced '500 to 600 tons of galena'. It appears to have continued to operate until at least 1960, producing ore to be treated at the North Baddera treatment plant, and supplying the Northampton State Battery. (Information based on the Shire of Northampton MI listing).
